Dr. David Gyertson has a broad and varied background in higher education, publishing, consulting, executive coaching, ministry and media.  He holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with a concentration in higher education administration and management. His undergraduate education (Spring Arbor University) is in Philosophy, Psychology and Religion and Master’s work (Michigan State University and the University of Toronto) is in student personnel administration, communications and comparative higher education. He has held senior leadership positions in religious, charitable and educational environments, including international and cross-cultural settings.

Currently David is Associate Provost and Dean of the Beeson International Center at Asbury Theological Seminary (Kentucky) and Professor of Leadership. Prior to this he served as the Headmaster of Maranatha High School in Pasadena, CA. Earlier he was Distinguished Professor of Leadership Formation and Renewal at Regent University in Virginia. David was a founding team member of that University in 1977 and returned as President in 1990. Dr. Gyertson also served as President of Asbury University (Kentucky) and Taylor University (Indiana).

Gyertson is an ordained minister having served senior pastoral positions in Methodist and Presbyterian settings. He hosted the daily nationally syndicated radio show “On-the-Line”. He also was the host and executive producer of the weekly “Canadian Edition” television broadcast. David was a Senior Fellow with the Engstrom Institute of the Christian Leadership Alliance with a research and consulting focus in Executive Leadership for Nonprofit organizations. In addition he was a Senior Fellow for the Council for Christian Colleges and University in Washington, D.C. He served as a Flotilla Staff Officer with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. David is a member of the Board of Trustees of Biola University in California.

Dr. Gyertson is a strategic initiatives consultant and executive coach to faith-based organizations and their leaders. He specializes in Board governance training, transition planning and special projects implementation. David does leadership retreats in areas of spiritual formation for organizational leaders, ministry professionals and others desiring to grow personally and professionally as committed followers of Christ. He has delivered numerous lectures, workshops and seminars and published several articles on a variety of topics related to Christian thought and practice. He is frequent speaker at conferences, camps, schools, universities & churches.

David is published in the fields of Biblical Studies, applied theology, colonial and church history, higher education and leadership studies. “Faithful Stewards: Board Governance Principles and Practices for Faith-Based Nonprofits” was published in 2011 and is used extensively for Board training with Crisis Pregnancy Centers and other faith-based nonprofits.  His chapter, “Christian Leadership and the Identity and Mission of an Organization” was published by B & H Publishers (Nashville 2011) in “Christian Leadership Essentials”. Dr. Gyertson also was the senior editor for “Nonprofit Leadership in a For-profit World (Standard Publishing 2011). For CBN Publishing he edited the “Operation Good Shepherd” teachings, “Foundations of the Faith” and the twenty volume “Living by the Book” series. Most recently he has five articles the three-volume Encyclopedia of Christian Education (Rowan & Littlefield 2015).
